Discover Andros’ archaeological secrets on a hike from Panachrados Monastery to the ancient city of Strofilas. Explore ruins, dramatic coastal views, and a hidden beach below the excavation site.
This lesser-known trail on Andros is more than a hike—it’s a journey into the island’s ancient past. Starting near the Panachrados Monastery, this route travels through Koureli, Sasa, Aladou, and Agia Triada, leading toward the Zagora Archaeological Site—the remains of the prehistoric city of Strofilas. We followed the final part of the route, descending toward the excavation site of Strofilas, one of the most important early Cycladic settlements in the Aegean. The moment you arrive, you’re greeted by breathtaking views of the ancient port, now a secluded beach, untouched and filled with a sense of timelessness.
The terrain becomes steep and rocky underfoot, making this stretch challenging but deeply rewarding, especially for those who love remote, raw landscapes with historical weight. Standing among ancient ruins with the Aegean Sea stretching out below, it’s impossible not to feel a sense of awe.
Tip – You will definitely take amazing shots. For keen hikers, continuing the descent all the way to the beach is a real challenge—but one that ends with the magical reward of untouched coastal beauty and the quiet energy of a place where time stands still.
