Andros Route No 10

APIKIA-EVROUSES-STRAPOURIES-MESATHOURI - A Rugged Trail Through Forests and Springs

This hiking route from Apikia to Mesathouri—passing through Evrouses and Strapouries—is a physically demanding but highly rewarding trail that offers everything from forested paths to dry, exposed climbs, and a deep sense of Andros’ wild, authentic charm. Our hike coincided with the maintenance and clearing efforts by Andros Routes, and it was heartening to see volunteers from Greece, France, and Germany working side by side with locals to preserve the trails. It’s a perfect example of sustainable tourism in action.

The path features multiple ascents and descents, with several technically challenging spots. The trail alternates between lush, dense vegetation—resembling a forest in places—and open, dry rocky terrain that adds to the trail’s variety and character. After a long and fulfilling trek, we reached the charming village of Strapouries, where the trail ends at the “Egkremnistra” spring—a cool, shaded oasis and a true reward after a tough day’s hike.

Tip – While Egkremnistra spring is a welcome finish line, keep in mind it’s near the end of the route. If you need a break earlier, take time to relax next to the river springs along the way, especially after the initial ascent through the forested sections. Bring plenty of water—this one’s a challenge!
